Thanks in part, to a pulled-pork fundraiser hosted by volunteers at Crye-Leike Realtors in Grove, members of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 19, are closer to their goal of obtaining a larger van.
The fundraiser, which took place in May, brought in $2,200 for the organization. On Tuesday, June 6, Matthew Sowers with Drake's Restaurant presented the funds to Jon Arthur, commander of the DAV.
Members of the DAV bought the current van in 2010 for approximately $25,000. It is used to transport disabled veterans to VA medical facilities in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
DAV volunteers said a new van, with additional headspace, is needed to help disabled veterans who struggle when climbing into it.
The funds presented Tuesday represented the proceeds from the luncheon, catered by Sowers, with the help from members of the Crye-Leike realtor team and members of Delaware County 4...
